Art by Harmeen Kaur
I’m an aspiring author
During 2020, I was watching Ava DuVernay’s 13th film. There was one scene which referenced a sole book which had sparked the origin of the KKK. It struck me how powerful a book can be — and if it can be used for evil, then it could also be used for good. Right then and there, I vowed I would write a book to be used for good.
I began writing but not as a writer. That would take a few more months. I took part in a Publishing Primer with Siretona Creative, hosted by my childhood friend, Colleen McCubbin. She asked how many of us had already published anything. When I didn’t respond, she prodded. “Didn’t you publish your Master’s thesis? Don’t you have a blog?” Hmmm. I soon joined Siretona’s Nestbuilders and enjoy learning, laughing and being supported by other authors and writers.
Once I gave myself permission to call myself a writer, the creativity floodgates opened up and I have a number of book and story projects underway. I am actively working on a book for leaders — how to build a leadership lifeboat. The cover will use this beautiful art designed by Harmeen Kaur.
There are other leadership books underway as well as a children’s story and a true crime fiction. Other short stories are also in the works.
I am also collaborating with author Nicola MacCameron on a Contemporary Paranormal Romance about a young starlet who gets stuck in the characters she plays on stage. Our current title is “Star Stuck”. We try to meet weekly to develop the plot and characters and to write. We always have fun and we can’t wait to share it with you!
My writing can also be found in My Journals and Medium.
